Electrical Rewire

Here at Marble M&E Group, we are able to provide you with effective solutions. We offer a comprehensive inspection to determine whether or not a rewire is necessary.

How do I know when to Rewire?

With rewiring your house or commercial setting, comes challenges of not knowing if you need one. It isn’t easy to tell if you need a rewire and this is because of the challenge of electrical installations being hidden in the walls, under floors, or within ceilings. Through our inspection and testing service, we are able to provide you with an electrical installation condition report (EICR). This will provide you with a comprehensive report, detailing any deterioration damage, hazards and anything that doesn’t comply with today’s safety standards and could potentially give rise to danger.

With anything electrical, it all erodes and deteriorates over time and this is why we recommend that if your electrical system is over 20 years old, we would always advise having it checked at regular intervals to ensure your home is running efficiently and most importantly safely. We at Marble M&E Group also understand the importance of keeping to deadlines and making sure your project stays productive from start to finish. This is why by working side by side with all parties involved, we plan our timetable accordingly to ensure your project runs smoothly and deadlines are kept, with minimal downtime.

When to Rewire?

Whether you have a commercial, industrial, or domestic building there is always a point that rewiring will be required. Whether that be a simple fix or a complete full rewire and through regular inspections and testing you will be able to effectively understand when that may be required.

If your building has any of the following, then it could provide reasons to get it rewired or at least tested to see recommended requirements:

  • Wall mounted light switches in bathrooms.
  • If round pin sockets and light switches are still in use, sockets mounted in skirting boards, black switches, braided flex cable.
  • If you find cables coated in black rubber, cables coated in fabric or lead.
  • If your fuse board has a wooden back or even a mixture of circuit boxes throughout. This could additionally lead to a new consumer unit installation.
  • If your fuses are constantly blowing, tripping out.
  • If you discover earth wires missing from switches and sockets.

If you are not sure if you require a rewire then please contact us for a no-obligation quote. We will then be able to send out one of our highly skilled engineers, who are fully trained with NICEIC and CHAS qualifications, being able to support you with a decision and recommendation.

What does a Rewire Entail?

Depending on what the EICR report recommends, our experienced and highly trained electrical engineers are able to support in replacing and renewing all of your existing wiring, electric sockets, light pendants, cabling and consumer unit.

Additionally, on all our electrical rewire services we will ensure that you still have electricity. We will ensure you are not left without power overnight: fridges, freezers, and other electricity dependent equipment will be protected at all times whilst the work is being carried out.

How Long will Rewire Work take to Complete?

Our guideline to rewiring a three bedroom house normally takes up to 10 days. However, these time frames are all dependent upon the installation that is to be carried out thought the project.

Why do you need to Rewire more than once in a Buildings Lifetime?

There are numerous different reasons why a commercial, industrial, or domestic building may need a rewire. And often when a fault occurs it may not be able to be fixed without a rewire.

The other reason and importance of a rewire is that when the cables you have installed are very old it can become dangerous due to deterioration in the insulation causing fire risks. With electrical wires also all being hidden behind walls, under floors, or within celling’s it means most people are unaware of the state their wiring is in and this is where a regular EICR report can support you with knowing if it needs replacing.

If you have constantly blown fuses or an RCD that refuses to reset. This can be a sign you need a rewire and these are a few simple signs you can look for:

  • Black marks or other indicators of burning on electrical sockets
  • Using multiple extension leads.
  • Does your fuse board look old?
  • Does your fuse board use wire as fuses?
  • Crusty rubber typically black on cables.
  • Cables with fabric coating.
  • Cables that look twisted together often with rubber or fabric coating.
  • Electrical sockets mounted on skirting.

Additional if you’re having trouble with the following, then you may also need a rewire:

  • RCDs that will not stop tripping.
  • Electrical problems that don’t seem to have a cause or reason.
  • Fuses are tripping for no reason.
  • Lights keep flickering.
  • Heating of electrical sockets, warm to the touch.

Things to keep in mind on a house rewire

  • Rewires can take on average a week to complete.
  • Outside sockets – don’t let them be a second thought!
  • Networking – Ethernet connection points and USB charging points.
  • Supply of smoke alarm and burglar alarms.
  • It’s worth keeping some money aside for contingency as you never know what complications may arise.
  • Staircase? Light switches at the bottom and top of the staircase are invaluable.
  • Freezers and other important devices on their own feeds.
  • Getting more sockets then you think you need.
  • Need wiring for a doorbell?

If you notice any of these signs, then contact us for an initial consultation quote or inspection report to understand if you require a rewire.
